I have found an add for a sander in a local trading post that reads as follows. High speed sander 120" belt, 5000 feet per minute, 1hp motor, $125. Does this sound like something worth checking into?

Sounds like a small industrial edge sander, for the woodworking end of things.

5000 sfpm is VERY fast. I usually don't run my Burr King over 50% and I'm tired but I believe MAX is 2500 sfpm.

A 120 in. belt isn't impossible to find, but a heck of a lot harder than a 2X72.

BUT, for $125 it might be something that you can modify for knifemaking use. Just because I like to grind with a slower speed doesn't mean you can't do it fast.

I know a man that grinds with a Burr King modified for 300 and some odd inch belts and a 5hp motor that turns so fast it makes my head spin. But he gets the job done, and done well.

So it never hurts to look
