Well, I'm NOT going to be buying any more files. I AM going to by a small belt sander. I was looking at some 1x30 models and some 4x36 models. All have 6-8" grinding wheels also.

Any recommendations as to size?

The current threads about Grizzly's customer service have me a bit nervous about dealing with them. Perhaps I should just run down to the Sears hardware store.

Go to www.harborfrieght.com and check out their 6 by 48 sanders. They come with a 9" disc sander on them. I bought one for $149 on sale and have had nothing but good service out of it. Real strong motor too. The shipping was free when I bought mine, but I'm not sure if it still is. I flat grind on it as well as sanding the flats of the blades I hollow grind. You can take a very worn out 600 grit belt and put a nice shine on a blade. Don't buy any belts from Harbor Frieght. I did and they are garbage. Call 18009380021, G.L. Pearce Abrasives, to get the belts. He has an excellent product at the best prices I've found. Take care!! Michael

I woul get a 1x42 instead of the 1x30 belts last longer and are easier to find.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys! I dropped by Sears hardware today and picked up a 1x42 with a 6 inch side disk for $49.00 on clearance from $119.00.

I didn't think I could beat that. I did look at the $199.00 2x4(2x46?) model that they had. I wish I could have afforded that one.

Th 4th, back before I got my Wilton, I went thru 2 of those in as many months. Lol Burned the first one up in two weeks.

I've been playing with it and I think I should have stuck with files. I've just about ruined my first knife. I think I have some experience to gain here.

About the only thing I accomplished with my Craftsman was getting mad. It has its uses, but I found that grinding steel was not one of them. I have had a Grizzly about six months, and considering the price, am very pleased. No power problems, uses 2X72 belts, etc. Fix a few minor problems and you are set. The customer service I received was excellent (the contact wheel was not in the initial shipment), however, their quality control seems lacking. They were very helpful in resolving the problem. Just one man's experience.

This is a picture of the first knife I ever ground, about 5 or 6 years ago. It was done on a Sears 4X36 belt grinder(with a lot of hand work).
