Good morning gents.
love seeing all the great craftmanship on this board.
as mentioned before Im dabbling in Knife making again but dont have any of My old stuff , Mainly my home built belt grinder that I had a few years ago . ive been playing with re profiles and re gripping using a portable belt sander and a hand finish sander.
Im going to make a few knives for Xmas gifts.
Ill be doing the grinds on a bader machine at the bader factory (bader is a good customer) I have a good heat treat shop localy that we use for various sevices.
This brings me to grips. what machine would be a good fit for scale work (My portable belt sander works but is a Pain) I was thinking a bench top combo 4x36 sander with a disc or would a 1x30 do scale work ok? I know the 1x30 is handy for slack belting but I have no first hand knowlage if it will work for shaping scales to the tang
should I get both? I have a buffer and drilling equipment so Its the sanding Im not set up for too good right now.
sears has a 2X42 but I need to see if the end cap can be removed so Inside curves can be shaped and it doesnt have a large slack section.
but sears also has a better 2x42 that can also use 1x42 belts and it looks like the back plate/ Platen is only half way up the frame which leaves a nice large area for rounding scales.
Your thoughts please.
many thanks
