if a belt is made of Aluminum Oxide, whats it for , wood or steel?

and whats that other stuff for, Zirconium used for?

Aluminum Oxide belts can be used for both. Zirconia can too, but it's a waste of money as they are more expensive.

I agree about the belts. I have both and I don't think the zerconian belts wear that much better,And I use the cleaning block quite often to keep buildup to a minimum. Just not worth the extra money. My machine is running 1725 rpm, so I am also running both at the same speed, too.

If you are flat grinding I recommend getting ceramic belts. They cost more but in the long run you will save money. I started using AO belts but it would take 3 or 4 to grind a blade, I then tried the Blue Zircona and could get one blade per belt. With ceramic I get 3 or 4 blades per belt and get tons of profiling after I've finished grinding bevels.

well, now BeowulftheGeat you have to tell me where you are getting them?...LOL

I went and already placed an order for some A/O belts from ebay,,,time will tell if I get them

i use al ox , its all i have, i use wood on the belts first if i need to sand wood

thanks,,I was a bit confused by all of the different types when I went on-line to look for new belts.

I have placed a bid on some A/O belts on E-BAY..some lady seems to have some belts there that look like they are just what Im looking for.

Now for the next 3 days,,NO ONE BID Against ME!....LOL....(so I can get them for so little money as I bid)
