I tried sanding bevels using a sanding block and a little light oil. I was told that this helps and makes the paper last longer, without loading up. this seems to be true, but I can't see when I've got all of the previous scratches out because of the slurry of oil and sanding dust. the only way to tell is to wipe the blade down, am I doing something wrong?

I like soapy water with the wet/dry paper but yes you have to wipe it occasionaly.
