There was a post about sanding blocks but I decided to start a new one. I have several pictures to show If I can get Imager to paste. Sometimes I have trouble with it.
I finish grinding on a 10" wheel. I hold the blade at a 45 degree angle and get somewhat of a flat grind, but these sanding blocks will work well with any grind.
I trace the outline of the 10" wheel on a 2x4 board. Cut the outline out and glue a piece of leather on the board. I use a paper cutter to cut the sandpaper into strips that fit on the sanding block. I cut a groove in one end of the block to hold the sandpaper and use a piece of wood with a screw to hold the other end in place.
I have five sanding blocks. 400,500,600,800 and 1200 grit.
I sand dry. I don't use any lube. I like to see what I am doing and I do a lot of hamon's and sanding dry I just put the blade in the acid and don't need to get any oil off the blade.
You might not think it but these blocks work well on a flat blade.
I grind with 36,60,120,220,400 and 22 Norax belts. It takes maybe 1 minute each side with the 400 grit block to get all the grinding scratches out.
