Sanding down G10/ rit dye

I saw some old threads where guys sanded down their PM2 scales and it looks to be a translucent scale underneath. I am wondering if anyone has tried using rit dye on this translucent scale? I read that the scale must be lighter than the rit dye to work effectively. I plan on using orange rit dye on the translucent scales. How does everyone think this will work?

Although I have not tried it I think it should work fine. Will Moon has an excellent video on RIT dying sales on YouTube.
