i just got a 2008 7A, and it is perfect. i did take it apart and on the inside of the scales where the washers rub, it was pretty rough and it felt very rough when i opened. i didn't bother the blade, as it is very smooth from the coating, but i took some fine sandpaper and smoothed out the scales where it rubs the washers
WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT!

it reminds me of my 2004 7B, and i think i will definitely do it one more time with crocus cloth(super fine sandpaper)

anyone else have to do this?

i run it dry, and once you smooth it there is no need for lube.

I quite often polish the contact areas and washers (if there PB washers) and it does make a big difference.

I worked on a buck strider not too long ago, that thing felt like it was chewing rocks when you opened it:eek:.
After polishing all the contact areas and washers its like an assisted opener now

I still use a small spot of tuff glide to help keep dirt out and having a bit
of lube at the pivot is always going to do more good than harm

ive polished the contact areas in the pivot on a few knives but i found that mirror polishing them slowed opening on flippers and assisted open knives. I know this doesnt affect emersons but it was as if there was too much friction by having two polished surfaces with lube contacting eachother and created a vacuum. So far ive had the best results with fine satin finishing the contact points.

Interesting. I'm glad that worked for you.
My Emerson's always break-in smooth as silk.

it is weird. but it had to be done. those dang scales were just to ruff. tomorrow i am going to get fine sandpaper to finish it up. i also sanded away the coating on the blade as it seemed to be against me, after further investigiation.

hopefully monday i am getting a used 2001 blackbird A model, so i am excited about getting an old school emerson!

IIRC they havent made ravens for quite some time now, several yrs in fact.

they are ok like all EKI's but were never a big fav of mine,

i got my blackbird A ! it is the most comfortable knife i have ever held, bar none! i will post pics later.

i actually just sent the blackbird to emerson today cause one of the liners threads for the rear grip screws is now striped, i believe it was probably due to an old crappy screw? but we will see how it comes back, with a new liner i guess? and i wonder if they will replace the locking liner with the new thicker ones? i figure probably not cause cuz it has been out of production for soo long.

either way, i can't wait to get it back and see it! will keep everyone posted for sure
