So am I the only one to sand his G10 Spydies ?

Cheers

I sand the G10 (and plastic scales) on Cold Steel folders, but don't "melt" them the way you did. Thats looks pretty nice.

Looks awesome. I was thinking of doing this to my zt 350 a while back, but didnt know how it would turn out. Im going to be doing this soontimes

Wear a mask, work outside. beware of the G10 dust is very toxic (like breathing glass!)!
Take your time. The G10 dust is white/grey so it looks bad when you sand it.
But after it's cleaner.;)

Sweet, thanks for the heads up and did you apply a finish to it after sanding it? Also, what grit did you use?

It's sandpaper for wood and the grit: 400.
Then for the "melting effect"
I have used some white polish for metal until I was happy with the result.
Then hot water and soap.
Relube and it was good to go.
One hour job.:)

I wanted the handle to be very confortable for hardwood cutting tasks.

Nice job and review Nemo. I like it much better like this. All that modern, grippy, sandpaper like G10 is not for me. To much pocked wear. One of the many reasons I like my Spyderco Walker with it´s CF scales so much :)

I do think that the new Para Military is a great upgrade though.

I don't like the roughness of most G10. I sanded down my lefty Military using 1500 grit wet-dry under running water to keep the dust down.

No pics at the moment, but mine turned out very similar to yours, perhaps a touch less smoothed out. Like the pics, the texture on mine is not completely even and would probably be a tough resale. However, the LH Military is a keeper.

Very nice pictures:thumbup:

I usually give my G10 Spydies a slight wet sanding session, still plenty of grip and less pocket wear.

Looks great as well imho.

You know, a few years ago someone took an old style Manix and gave it the melt/polish treatment. That was about the sweetest knife I've ever seen on BF.

Maybe you should very gently round over the spine and polish up the blade a little on your P2. Just a thought.

Found it. Here is the Manix I was talking about.

I'm going to melt the edges of my CF model just a bit. The edges of both my CF Spydercos are very square and just a little uncomfortable in extended use.

Here is a para I sanded.

The millie got a light sanding and the tenacious was smoothed out quite a bit more. I also took a good amount of its spine off.

If your going to do any ply peel knives I suggest giving the whole scale a light sanding too. Its amazing how the cf comes to life after even a small amount of sanding.

Stretch before sanding:
