sanding on bone scales,will it take out the dye?

hello, I have a couple of knives with bone scales that are as most bone scales are dyed, and they have some small imperfections that im sure with a little sandpaper come right out. my question is will a little bit of sanding take out the dye? im sure if the sanding were somewhat deep it would but im not sure? surely the dye doesn't go all the way through the bone?

It may lighten it a little, but you probably won't notice the difference.

If the bone is dyed properly the color should be permeated through all of the bone.
