Recieved a knife yesterday (production model) that came with a kydex sheath.

Knife is great, but the sheath looks like it was never really cleaned up around the edges.

I'm assuming I can just sand this thing with finer and finer sandpaper until it's good and smooth, correct?

Any tips for sanding or polishing the edges? Respirator necessary?

I make a fair amount of kydex sheaths. I shape them and even up the edges on a small belt sander. After that, I debur the edge with an old fine file. Next, I sand the edge lightly with emery paper, taking care to ONLY sand the edge, not the sides of the sheath. I use 80 grit, then 120, and finish with 240. That's as far as I go.

I wear a respirator while belt sanding, but not while hand sanding. It doesn't create much dust. One hint: Stuff the opening with toilet paper, paper towel, etc. to keep the sanding grit out. That's the stuff (along with dirt and grime) that scratches the blade. I always blow mine out with a compressor afterwards just to be sure. Good Luck!
