Is it Ok to use sandig sealer (shellac) on knife handles? I saw on a web site that it is possible to add hardener to this in order to get a very hard finish.
Won't hurt anything.
You can do Minwax wood hardener first before you do the sanding sealer. Once the wood hardener is fully cured and dry, apply a heavy coat of the sealer and sand completely off. Re-apply the sealer and sand it away several more times.
I've been doing this with some other woodwork with plain shellac, and I've just been trying this with a handle I'm working on. It seems to work, but doesn't seem useful except on porous woods.
