i have ordered a brand spanking new 880 tanto point and have read taht some people have found the g10 to be a tad to hard on jeans etc. i was wondering if anyone has a system for sanding the g10 down a bit, i own a dremel and have seen those suggested for use but anyone have an alternative? (not sure i can keep my hand grip steady for that long in case i do have to sand)

thanks for your help!

My next knife will be a Buck 880 tanto part. serrated blade.
I owned the first model with the very sharp edged handle. Sold it.
I would use a belt sander or simular. Of course a mask for G10 dust.
If I plan on keeping the Buck I'll sand on the handle to fit me better.
No problem.
Mm

If its not too late you should contact your supplier and see if they have the new ones.
The G-10 is allegedly much smoother on them at no charge.

Sanding on G-10 is also pretty nasty for your lungs.

If I was going to smooth the G-10 on my old BS I would use a fine file and do it in a stream of water to just knock the tops of the scales down a little.

mine is also part serrated, i think it will be a great edc... as for contacting the supplier mine was sent friday i believe so its a little late to stop shipping but i asked and this is the ambi thumb stud version so id say its the one with the smooth g10 scales so i might not need to sand afterall!

thank you everyone for posting... ill drop a line tommorow or so and let you guys know what it turns out to be...

If it's the new Buck Striders with the dual thumbstuds and reversible pocketclip, you won't need to worry about sanding down the G-10 scales. The texture is just right.

Sanding the handles on the Buck Strider is easy...You can get some 220 grit sandpaper and a sanding block and do it by hand, or you can use a buffing wheel or scotchbrite pad. I have used both methods with good results. I really does not take much effort. All you are trying to do is knock off the top edges of the G-10.
