Steve. I feel you are going to see a lot of posts from me. I just noticed the "Tanto" knife you finished. Excellent work. Regarding that knife, where, if you do not mind me asking, did you acquire the same~, or rayskin, and where did you learn your wrapping techniques for the handle. I have heard and seen both the traditional and "battle" wrap for Katana's. Thank you in advance.

Pacey,

The Rayskin is from some guy on ebay. Nice fellow, fast with orders. Search this site, I posted his URL not too long ago.

RE: wrapping.

Personally I think my wrapping job sucks. Here's a couple of links I got from Michael Burch I'm using to learn:

RE: Clay

That particular blade was clay treated by my teacher Michael Vagnino. Can't take credit for that one!

You have a lot of things to study. Sounds like you want it all at once. I STRONGLY recommend getting lessons. Even a few days can save hundreds of dollars and hours.

They say knife making isn't rocket science. But it's pretty darned close.

Thanks for the lead, Sando. I need to sign off now, but I will contiue my search. I know exactly what you mean when you speak of doing reserch and things of that nature. I have been online for the past week doing nothing but searching Katana parts, steel information, tempering, so on and so on. I just finally broke down and decided to come here and ask for help. As far as going big, yes, a Shira-Saya is going to be my first project. I feel I will more than likely do better in building a saya, or scabbard for the sword that I will with the sword itself. We'll see. Thank you again.
