Anything Cliff says you can take to the bank!!
That system does work very well.
Richard is right about the emory cloth though. It does work much better than sandpaper!
The only difference in use is that you have to draw the edge "away" from the edge instead of "into" it.
A good trick for getting the paperor emory to stay in place is to use craft spray glue to put it on the styrofoam temporarily.
I reworked a Cold Steel Trailmaster that had its edge totally destroyed back to new condition with heavy duty floor sanding paper and a plank. That took some elbow grease, but done a much better job than anything else would.
As to the grits, it depends on how bad the edge is to begn with.
If you're just touching u a new khukuri about 150 grit is where I would start and then advance on to 220, 320 and 400 if I wished to go that fine.
The 320 is generally okay for a useing khukuri.
I recommend the wet or dry if you can't get the emory cloth.
Any Silicone Carbide paper will do the job for you.
Let us know how it turns out if you try it.
You can put a pretty fair edge on a new khukuri wit just the chakma wih a little care. This maintains the original convex edge as well.

The hardy adventurer just drank from a stream he thought was pure glacier fed water not knowing that upstream was being used by a herd of yaks as a giant bidet.
I said he was hardy, not smart.
