Sandvik steel changeover from 440A

Forgive me if I have missed this, but does anyone know yet what "born-on dates" there are for all models with the new Sandvik steel? Will the dates vary from model to model or will the start date be the same for all models?

I've done some searching on this forum for this info, but have not heard anything new on this topic for about a month now.

I know that I received a Smoky Mountain catalog in the mail about 3 weeks ago (and also their website). They list many of their Kershaw knives there as having Sandvik steel blades. Is that true, or are they just jumping the gun a bit?

I know, I for one, will be buying many more Leeks now with the Sandvik steel. The 440A steel was keeping me from buying them in bulk before. Speaking of Leeks, will all the handle and blade variations there are now be made with the new steel? I would love to see an all gold version of the Leek being made with the new steel. And I'm sure "nygiantsfan3342" will agree with me on this, would love to see the black boron with gold hardware leek available with this steel.

If anyone knows, please chime in here.

Thanks!

Hi Greg

None of the 440A blades have been changed over as of today. I will try to get some updated info on this soon.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thomas I'm new to the Kershaw knives and am a little confused about the question asked above in reference to Sandvik steel on Kershaw knives.

Aren't some of the knives already made with the Sandvik steel ? I thought the JYD1 I bought today was made with the Sandvik steel ? Or are you just talking about Leeks ?

The Kershaw website has Sandvik steel listed there as well for the LEEK's and JYD's.

Thanks for any more info.

CARman, we have been using 13C26 for sometime now, but only on new models.

What we are changing, is the steel on all existing models that are currently done up in 440A. They will be be changed over to 13C26.

Blackout's
Whirlwind's
Leek's
Baby Boa
Centofante/Onion's

I think that is it, someone correct me if I left anything out.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Thomas, I really don't have a problem with the 440A steel since I can't sharpen worth anything anyway.

I just wanted one with a blade made with Sandvik steel since I didn't have one.

I understand now that the JYD's are from your newer line and were using Sandvik steel to begin with. :)

Thanks for the info.
