Hi,

My brother is going to school up in SB and I want to get him a Spyderco Sage possibly. Could anybody enlighten be about the SB laws? I am aware that California law does not allow for preemption thus SB county/municipal law would further restrict knife carry. However, I cannot even find the penal code relating to knife carry. Does this imply that there are no county laws? Thanks.

I am not an attorney, but am very familiar with CA Law. It seems there is no specific law regarding blade length in Santa Barbara, unlike LA City and a few other areas therefore only CA State Laws apply. Anotherwords, you can carry a folding knife (any length) in the folded position on a college campus in CA; remember, NOT a fixed blade. But beware, a lot of college police simply don't know the law. I had a problem once; I was carrying a Sebenza, got arrested and held at the campus police station, then I insisted they call the local DA's office. They said I was right and only then did they released me an hour or so later. Better to keep a low profile. That said, CA really has very reasonable knife laws. As a side note, read the campus handbook; it's possible, albeit doubtful they have a specific prohibition. Maybe not criminal, but no one wants to be kicked out of school.

hey thanks for the reply. I live in Orange County and I am glad that it appears that Santa Barbara also enjoys the same freedoms as the residents of the OC.
