Well I was wondering what uc Santa Cruz knife laws are like as I will be going to school there. I am living on campus and I was wondering if kitchen knives would be fine to have for the kitchen area of my apartment as i would like to have something to prepare my food with. But I do not know of it would be legal for me to have them there . I also called the school about this but they were very vague and unclear in there answer

Cause under ca law fix blades are technically illegal on university property except in vague work related situtuations and I don't know if this would fall under work related situation or not.

Is this a real question? If it is wow dude you are over thinking things. Yes you can own a kitchen knife for your apartment.

Quite a few married students with children live on campus. I've known a few in the past and they all had kitchen knives. I'd think it would be a non-issue unless you're out in the front yard throwing your knives at targets, etc. Mike

Okay thank u mike that puts me at ease with that then. I've just been worrying a little too much about a lot of things and what to bring and not bring since I'm going to be a freshman there and not want to get in trouble is all

I attended school there for awhile back in the stone age and always had a Swiss Army knife in my pocket. I used it as needed during our lab work. The only grief I ever received was from a fellow student telling me I must be somewhat of a hardcore science person instead of philosopher because I had a Philips screw driver on my knife (which I used often) instead of a cork screw. US Santa Cruz has a beautiful campus and for the most part the folks are pretty easy going. I'm sure you'll be fine. Santa Cruz, though probably left leaning has a broad spectrum of people from left to right. Some folks are terrorized by the sight of a squirt gun and some have more knives than they know what to do with (not mentioning any names) and a few guns too. Mike

It was a simple question and one intended to aquire information so he could avoid being expelled. I applaud people for asking about such things rather than just making assumptions and possibly being wrong. Believe it or not, but sometimes school policys can be pretty ridiculous and difficult to understand.

It never hurts to ask (at least it shouldn't), and it's not like any of us are required to answer if we think a question is silly.

Good for you butterflyknives for asking rather than assuming, clearly you are an intelligent person. Good luck in your studies.
