Santa Fe Stoneworks... Collectable? Really?

I am thinking about getting some Santa Fe Stonework for a knife. They claim to be collectable, they won some kind of Blade magazine award for most being collectable BUT every time I see them for sale it's for significantly less than the owner paid. Doesn't even seem to add value.

Am I wrong?

Please give me you opinion.

Hi Matt and welcome. Thanks for joining. I am pleased you are interested in custom knives to ask.

The good news is these knives are nicely made and colorful and speak loudly of a handcrafted knife, even though they are renditions of existing knives, redone to their tastes. They are not really handmade knives as we like to classify them.

As far as collectibility goes, you have found the answer on your own. You are going to do well. Listen to your gut. ;)

The Santa Fe Stoneworks knives are "customized" production knives. Certainly the work is done by hand and the quality is pretty good. The design options are limited, although the stone choices are quite large. If you like a particular knife model and don't mind the extra weight, it is a relatively affordable way to have a "special" knife even though the knife itself is mass-produced.

No, I wouldn't call them "collectible", the appeal is pretty narrow. Most "collectable" productions knives are only collectable when they are of limited production AND popular.

Thanks,

That seals the deal for me, I am going to go with some Atwood tool/knifes instead. More usefull and a cheap but useful way to get into hand made knives.
