While on a recent visit to Taos, New Mexico I came across this little lockback from Santa Fe Stoneworks and couldn't resist.

The knife is 2-3/4" closed, 4-3/4" open. The mark side is hand-inlayed with turquoise, purpleheart, yellowheart, holly (?), and a couple of other woods I haven't identified. The pile side is a solid scale of desert ironwood.

Santa Fe Stoneworks is a nice little place to visit. It is down the street from where I work and I keep meaning to pop in over lunch I seem to always short on time. Their stone work is even nicer looking.

Yeah, I saw a lot of stone work, particularly turquoise, but this wood inlay really spoke to the woodworker in me. The detail and craftsmanship are what sold me. It may be a bit delicate so I doubt it gets used or carried much but it's pretty to look at.

I've been to their main location in Santa Fe, and years ago they had a storefront on the Santa Fe plaza.
Do they now have a store or dealer in Taos? Or did you pick that up second-hand?

Bob, there's a small clothing and jewelry boutique in the Taos Plaza (I forget the name) who had around a dozen of their lockbacks. Most were stone but two (this one and a larger size of the same) were done in wood. I was somewhat surprised at their affordable price. Being hand made I would have expected them to go for about double what I paid.

We were also in Santa Fe during the trip but unfortunately it was a Sunday so I knew they would be closed. Next time I'm out that way I plan to visit their shop.

Neal, The wood worker in me knows this took a lot of time. Very nice indeed. I agree this one is for display only, congratulations.
Bob

Oh and you should put this one in the "Wooden Wednesday" thread.
