I stopped into my local knife shop and they were having a sale. I picked up a plain edge Calypso micarta handle and a few other little items. They also had one only of the above referenced knife for $125. How good a deal is this? I might not have hesitated but I also handled a Starmate for the first time! Double WOW! I gotta get one. But since they will be around, should I jump on the Police first?

Tough choice…under normal circumstances I’d go for the Starmate without hesitation, but that sounds like an extremely good buy on the embellished Police model. The website for Santa Fe Stoneworks shows prices of $217 to $243 for customized Police models; I have no idea what they normally retail for in stores. You can hardly go wrong either way; the Starmate is an amazing working knife and the Police is one of the all-time classic designs IMHO, with or without embellishment. I guess it depends if you want a worker or a collectible (I’d be afraid to use the fancy Police for fear of damaging it)…

Well, I don't know how the Police was embellished, but a Cricket they make into a Yin/Yang symbol goes for about $200 if memory serves. So I'd think $125 was pretty good for the Police, much less in a retail store !

Well guys you convinced me. Just returned from Chesapeake Knife and Tool as the proud owner of a Sante Fe Stoneworks Police. It will look great in a display case with my David Yellowhorse Police. Thnaks for talking me into it!
