Wow! What a complete surprise!!
I've been wanting an Izula since first seeing them on this forum. Never said a word about it to anyone. Imagine my amazement when my kids gave me one for Christmas! My oldest son, Jeffrey, is a Bladeforum member (Little Green Men), and he obviously shares the ol' man's taste in fine knives.
So, thanks to the kids, I'll be happy and proud to consider myself a "Rat-Packer". God Bless 'Em!

One question - what rust preventative do you folks most recommend for these knives?

Thanks,
Jeff

Grats on the Izula.

I use "Tuf cloth" made by sentry solutions easy to find on e bay. just wipe and go.

Rat Pack#428

Thanks, Chef, I'll give Tuf Cloth a try. A dry coating makes sense to me.
Have a Happy, Healthy New Year, my friend.

If you plan on using it for cutting food, then get some Mineral Oil. Cheap and available everywhere.

If you're going to cut food with it, I'd recommend using mineral oil. The kind I found in my house said its an intestinal lubricant ;D

I use...... nothing......I just wipe them dry when they are wet and I've never seen any rust on any of my rats.

Rem Oil seems to work for me. I also sometimes give mine a shot of Breka-Free CLP.

How good is the Break-Free CLP on rust for 1095? I have a few cans for my guns around. Is it as effective as Tuf Cloth or mineral oil?

I've used break-free clp on all my guns and knives, especially my carbon knives; never had any issues, ever, with rust, even on guns that have sat for months on end without any use (sad, isn't it?).

wow what a awesome set of kids you have. lol we use to just make our dads presents. though no i can't lie we do get him and mom pretty nice stuff also. congrats on a great christmas present and something i am sure your son will inherit on day :)

I'll add my voice to the Mineral Oil recommendations. Even if you don't use the knife for food prep it is still good to use a food safe oil just in case you do want to cut some food at some point.

Mineral oil all the way. Also have had good luck with bees wax and another item called George's Club house wax. It is a combination of mineral oil and bees wax and is a food safe finish for wood. I use it on all my wood handled knives and axes. I picked it up at woodcraft.com

You folks really do make a new guy feel like family. Guess I'll be a RAT Boy for life!
Thanks for the comments and advice.

Have a happy & safe New Year, my friends.
Jeff
