I am looking for a special gift for a man that has helped raise me and shown me some of the finest hunting and fishing a man can dream of. He is now retired and spending much more time at his hunting camps...we should all be so lucky. I'm considering getting him a bird and trout knife and thought there might be ideas here, as well as trying to support custom knifemakers for the holidays. Some parameters I was thinking on:

---Fixed blade, but if you have something interesting in a folder I'll look
--- blade 3" or so, I like damascus but carbon is fine
--- I have taken a recent liking to walrus ivory (thanks Angstrom!), but will consider other options
--- I don't want something flashy, just simple and elegant
--- for the right knife, I'd be willing to pay $800

If you can help Santa, post here or send me an email. Thanks and happy holidays and such.

heck I just looked at my site and I REALLY need to update, doing so now lol, ive got about 8 other works that need to go up and quite a few of my pics that are up could use some adjustment to color and brightness. if you'd like to see some pictures other than whats there let me know, Ive also got a bird knife that I was finishing the sheath for that I could knock the slabs off and replace with mammoth, or since I'm going to be in the forge tomorrow I could do something to spec.

You might want to browse the maker's for sale section here. Dusty Moulton does great work and has something there that might be up your alley.
There is also a Fitch for sale in the individual custom sales forum. Not supporting a local knifemaker, but something else to look at.

Contact Danbo - I seem to recall that he had something that would fit the bill perfectly (if it hasn't been sold).
