HI folks just wanted to see how many makers made little knives for xmas. crappy pics will be ok. this is just for fun, a quick pic and a story if there is one.
I will start with these two; The little chef knife is for my wife's folks and the belt knife is for her brother-in-law. the steel is 1080 plus, from AKS, I bought a 40x40 sheet and had 90 blanks cut out for the schools intro class. Her brother-in-law gave me the wood when I was in michgan last summer it is macaser ebony. this was my first time working with 1080 plus and wow holy moly, I am hooked, this steel rocks. I am glad i had some bigger santoku blades made as I think this is going make some very nice chef knife steel. OK now I am just rambling on, have a mErry Xmas, Happy Holidays, and a Prosperous 2011.

Nice, Dave:thumbup:

Here is a hunting knife I made my cousin for Christmas last year. He loved it. Work hardened and tempered steel. Not sure what the steel was, but it held an excellent edge. Handle scales were walnut with copper tube rivets, held together with 30 min epoxy. The sheath is made of old boot leather to complete that rough aged look.

My cousin liked the scale on the blade. Said it looked more like obsidian than steel.

That is a very cool gift I am sure it meant a lot to him that you made it by hand. that will be a hard gift to top this year. thanks for sharing it here.

Handmade knives are the best Christmas presents! Nice knives fellas.

Dave, I started trying to put together a kitchen knife for my wife today (last minute as usual.). If it turns out ok, I'll post it, but that's a pretty slim chance. It was going pretty rough so I decided I better come inside and shop the Internet for her gift. Lo and behold I end up on Bladeforums instead :D

Eli I think its the full moon would love to see it if you get it done. every knife dose not have to be a work of art. and I really thought I would have seen more simple knives posted that where made for gifts.

Okay Dave, good thing she's not too picky (remember, she picked me :D)

It's 3/32 O1, 7" blade and 12" overall:

Eli, Alright you got it done in time for Xmas! I like it! I would say it is a carving knife but I bet it will do a lot of things
Nice job

Eli, that's a very cool looking knife my man:thumbup:
Gothic, in a word:cool:

Great thread, Dave. I hope there are more folks out there making knives as gifts for their loved ones, who don't mind posting up their handiwork here.
I'd like to say that I'm making a knife for someone as a gift this year, but I ain't. However, the good wife is getting a nice and colorful Kershaw kitchen knife set this year, (the bad wife is getting a lump of coal- just kidding, I only have one wife, for now:D).

I just finished this last night it is one of the larger santoku blades cut from the sheet of 1080 plus the blade is 7" OAL is 11-1/2" it will be under my tree as a gift for my wife so I will get to use it :) I stained the blade with mustard . I ill put this knife through the test of hard kitchen use over the next 6 mounts to see if it is going to hold up like I think it is. I will show you the knife again in june.

Now that is a good looking mustard finish! I've tried it before but never with that kind of success, nice one Dave.
