... makes custom rescaled Kershaw and Spyderco knives... on eBay a seller is claiming that his SFSW Leeks have 154CM blades... however IIRC the original Kershaw Leeks are 440A. Does anyone know if SFSW replaces the blades when they do their custom work, or am I just being lied to?

It's possible the seller is simply mistaken, OR perhaps it was made with this steel at one time, and isn't any more. Is there a blade marking? AFAIK, Santa Fe doesn't replace blades, and I would be VERY surprised if I found out they did.

Might be... I asked the seller for further clarification. If past precedent holds true, if he responds, he probably won't know, it's rare I meet a bulk dealer who actually knows anything about knives. *Sigh* Too bad, SFSW makes gorgeous alterations, and a 154CM bladed Kershaw Leek done by them at the price it was offered at would have been almost too good to be true.

There is a leek with an S30V blade IIRC, the random leek from SMKW, maybe this is a limited production run custom although I doubt it.

It wasn't SMKW, it was CKT (Chesapeake Knife and Tool). Has Kershaw even made any knife before in 154CM (not CPM154)?

"Never attribute to mailce that which can adequately be explained by stupidity." ;)

Not so much lied to, as misinformed by a dealer who wouldn't know 154CM if it bit him in the yarbles. :D

The company is called "Santa Fe Stoneworks", not "Santa Fe Knifeworks". They do the embellishment, nothing more.

Heck, if you were Kershaw, would you want an aftermarket outfit replacing blades on your knives? That goes way beyond cosmetic embellishment, and could affect the basic functionality of the knife, which is what Kershaw's reputation rides on.

I have a few of those SFSW knives, and they are pretty sweet. My favorite is a Delica SS with red coral spiderwebs in a jet scale, and a silver Spyder inset. Keep in mind, though, the combination of steel scales plus stone is DAMN heavy!

They are really pretty. It just kind of rankles to be paying that much money and getting a really pretty knife with a relatively crummy steel. But what they do with Spydercos is pretty impressive!

Send Robert Terzuola over to check it out. He lives just down the street. :) (I regret not visiting SFSW during my last visit with Bob - I have only seen their embellishments in photographs.)

I just got an email back from the seller in question- now he says that SFSW uses 440C blades, which is entirely new to me... his listings claim 154CM, Kershaw's site says the normal Leek is 440A, I don't know what to think. Too bad, I kind of want to believe him. A Leek by SFSW in a good blade steel would be awesome.

All the SFKW Leeks listed on newgraham say 440A.

ENOUGH! Leeks are 440A with the exception of the Random Leek produced exclusively for Chesapeake Knife and Tool. And that's the fact Jack!;)

See, that's what I thought! It bugs the crap out of me. >.<
