I am pulling the trigger tonight on this knife. I've seen too much, and can wait no longer to own a Busse. Between all the picture threads and high acclaims, I've got to have one. I'll start with this EDC model.

However, the BUSSE store has two versions - Canvas Micarta and G10 (both black). I know what they are, but I wanted to get your opinions on which handle is better paired to this knife.

For those of you who have both types on a small knife, which do you prefer?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yeah, no doubt.... that's just a little embarrassing - mis-spelling micarta on a knife forum...:foot:

I got the G10 and love it, just depends on if you want a rough or smooth textured scales, it is a awesome blade, either way.

Even though G10 is more resistant to fluids/chemicals and is arguably more durable, I just prefer the feel and look of Micarta.

Thanks for the input. I'm going Busse for the indestructable-type steel it uses. The reputation for what this steel can do amazes me. So with the SAR-3 being much thinner and smaller, how tough is this knife? Will it still hold up to some major abuse and keep it's edge?..

I've batoned through some hard oak with mine and it kept it's shaving edge. Also made a lot a fuzzy sticks with it and once again, held its edge.

INFI is INFI

Oh, go with micarta

Dood, the only thing that I know that a Busse knife can't do is float...

Awesome...that makes me feel good about getting this one then! I like the fact that I'll be able to use it more often due to it's pocketable size.

Interesting - so far more of you lean toward micarta (the cheaper one)...must be the feel.

Keep in mind that .16" (a little over 5/32") isn't all that thin - especially when you compare it to similarly sized knives from other makers. It's just thin by Busse standards.;) Plus you also have to keep in mind that the SAR-3's blade carries it's thickness pretty close to the point and has a convex edge which all add up to a pretty tough little package.

Here's a shot of a SAR-3 and a Boss Street (which is about .22 in.).

canvas micarta:
-grippier
-pourous, may retain fluids
-visible grains
-less consistent coloring throughout, blk micarta is actually grey in appearance

g10:
-smoother
-consistent coloring throughout, blk g10 is blk in appearance

both are very durable. even if you intentionally try and break the scales, you have your work cut out for you.

i prefer the look and consistency of g10.

excellent observation and very true, g-10 v micarta

thanks for your EOW recognition from one of the "Thin Blue Line" retired from my first 30, now working for a 501c-3 Gang Invest. Assoc.

Micarta all the way. G10 is nice to look at but for a user, I prefer Micarta.

One more thing for this... Micarta is slightly lighter weight.

I prefer G10 over Micarta but there isn't that much difference.

I like the black to actually be black though.
