I got my SAR3 LE today. It’s a very nice knife with two exceptions. The first is that it didn’t come very sharp. It will shave hair if I scrape, but my other Busses came much sharper from the factory. I have no experience sharpening a convex edge so I’m hesitant to sharpen it. Secondly, the tip is very blunt and so off center that it reminds me of my old NO-E with the asymmetrical edge. Overall I like the knife but am quite disappointed with the finish quality of the blade. It's the only Busse I own that I've felt that way about. Here are some pics I took for comparison. Please excuse the poor quality. I took these quickly just to give you an idea of the size of the SAR3.

Here you can see how badly off center and blunt the tip is. I wish it had a much more acute point. IMO this is unacceptable for a knife in the SAR-3's price range.

Here is the SAR-4 tip on the left and the SAR-3 tip on the right. The difference is very noticeable.

Nice comparison shots! much smaller than I imagined.

If you drop Amy an email they will fix the grind for you,
probably happened on bring your own scotch to work day:cool::cool:

being off center was probably not intended, but the thickness may be part of the design. is the entire edge that thick or just the tip? a lot of the current busse line up has tips that are over built to fortify them against heavy impacts.

How are the handle ergos as compared to the Game Warden?

I had NO IDEA they were nearly identical in size... I might just get a BAD instead...

Jup, defective for sure. Send it to me. Heck, I might even give you one of my sharp edc Busse's in exchange.

Convex edges really are silly simple to sharpen and fix. Some sandaper and a mousepad and a single evening watching the military chanel and you could fix that your self.

Just read a few tutorials on here and spend about 20 $ or less oj materials.

They are very close in size to the GW! I'd say roughly 1/2" longer blade. Handle feels pretty god but I am not sure this will replace my GW for my EDC. I kind of like the feel of the GW better... but maybe it's what I am used to holding.

Thanks for the pics.

JRB and Mrchopchop, do not feel that you have to settle. Contact the Busse main office during normal weekday hours, and I have no doubt that they will take care of your concerns. I sent back an $800 Custom Shop knife from a 'Ganza, and they fixed it, no questions.

Blades are usually off center to one side depending if the person is right or left handed grinding the blades. I always notice this the most down by the choil or ricasso.

would that work better than a japanese waterstone? where in WA you located/

I am not too handy with stones. I use a medium diamond stone for somethings. All my infi is convexed. I think the sandpaper/mouse pad is a much much easier technique (some use leather backing for a bit more firmness in the backing).

I had never tried it till a few years ago. Did a folder to try it out. It was so easy I did all my infi by hand, (the Ash1 cg was not too bad. The fbmle really took some time and sore muscles ).

Google bladeforums for tutorials. Watch some youtube vids. On a sar3 it would really be cake.

I am in central Wa right now. Just moved after 5 years in Eastern Wa.
