SAR-3 Question

There were a lot of SE SAR 3s, seemed like Skunk was realeasing a new version every 5 days for about 3 months.

To me, that looks like black paper. I can't recall if there was a black g-10 and double cut SAR 3.

From what I remember, there was a satin with black paper and a DCBB with black micarta. Although I don't recall a black G-10 version, I do remember letting a few versions slip by without ordering and DCBB/G-10 could have been one that I would have passed on. That one in the pic looks a little 'flat' and not smooth enough to be black paper... Actually, my guess is lightly sandpapered (to knock back the sharp ridges these SAR3 scales all seemed to have...at least mine do) and oiled micarta, but don't hold me to it.

I traded that sar3 to stinkyspice. Its SE doublecut w black paper handles.

Hell of a fine knife, i carry mine every day

Yours also looks like black paper micarta to me not g10

That is black G10, in http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc499/stinkyspice/IMG_1715.jpg you can see the texture of the fiberglass in the grooves that you won't get with the much smoother black paper micarta.

Before I looked at the pic I was pretty sure from memory that black paper was only offered with satin on all of the SAR series. The DCBB's were G10 or canvas micarta. Who knows, there might be some show special exceptions out there though.

Yup... found the answer to your question.

This was all of them

Bottom of the left row was double cut w/ black g-10.

I love that little knife, wish i still had them all.

You guy's are correct:thumbup: Great Sar 3 pictures Dave:thumbup:

That's what I was hoping to hear! Not that black paper is undesireable, but I just like the grippiness of G10 - especially on a smaller knife.

Definitely G-10. As AZTimT said, you can see the fiberglass weave in the grooves. If it were paper then you would have barely discernible layers of paper and resin with no weave pattern.

Great score Rich!

That's what I thought, thanks. I should have it by tomorrow - won't let this one get away again!
