I did this mod a while back and thought I would share it with you folks. The SAR3 is a handy little knife and a great complement to the SARGE 7
I'm not a big fan of choils but the ability to choke up and get four fingers comfortably on the handle is a huge improvement over the talon hole.
I am very happy with the way this turned out.

Very clean work. Looks a bit more comfortable. I ended up selling my SAR 3 in favor of my AD. I could get a more comfortable purchase on the AD. Yours looks like a keeper!

Nice work...looks comfy. If you plan on keeping and using her...might as well make her fit to your liking. I imagine removing the trademark talon hole is one mod that would not be performed by the custom shop.

Very nice! On small knives I have always liked that look and the added functionality.

Thanks guys, I'm glade you like it.
I took a chance on this one and it really paid off, the way it settles in the hand is amazing.

That set of knives looks awesome. Can you detail the steps you took to remove the talon hole? Does it take specialized tools?

I have a dremel and some sandpaper :)

I kept a set of these and its one of the best set ups.

Although I do like your sar 3's better:)

Nice mod:cool:

No problem, I used a dremmel, Tupperware container filled with ice water and a towel.

I marked off the area I wanted to remove with a sharpie. Then I folded cardboard and taped it over blade and handle for protection.
I used a cut off wheel to cut a v groove into the talon hole dipping in ice water and drying often. Then I used the barrel sander bit to round it out dipping and drying often.
The last thing I did was soften the edges a little by hand with sandpaper.

That is it, the whole project takes about 20 minutes. I did not remove any material that wasn't necessary and had no loss of cutting edge.

Here is a SAR 4 I did a while back. I also shortened the handle on this one.
