For those of you who have seen what I have done to my SAR4 to date, will know that I just cannot leave well enough alone! Part one was the tongue removal. Part II was putting in a choil that I could use! It worked well for dressing and butchering my daughters 8 point this year. But I was up before dawn this morning, and while the rest of the family was still asleep, I set up my sanders outside and was at it again. My neighbors must hate me. Anyway, I just had to do a little more handle shaping. Outside in below freezing, with a bucket of ice water mixed with snow, and ice forming on my work stand, and my coat --- with my wet hands freezing, I went at it again. Here are the results.
Sorry Jerry - Please forgive me! :o

Beautiful work, David. I am continually impressed by some of the modified Busses I see on this forum. I think yours looks better than the factory handle, but the proof is in the using. If it works for you, then that's all that matters.

I love to see mods.:cool:

What kind of belt and grit are you using? I was working on putting a clip point on a SARSquatch, and it is slow going grinding full thickness INFI.

Very nice work mate. Now to see this on a SAR8.

Any chance of a before and after pic?

Nice mod, a picture of the knife in your hand would be welcome !
Here you go:

The balance point is just behind the front rivet. I loved the blade shape (a drop point would be nice however ;)) and geometry, but I really wanted a hunter. This as getting a lot of real world use, and I am loving it! :D

For the rough grinding, I am clamping my 4" x 24" hand held belt sander in a vice type stand, and I got the coarsest grit I could get. Do not know if it has a number or not. I have a bucket of ice water, and I dip it every pass. The ice water may be overkill, as it was in the teens this morning when I was doing the grinding outside. The ice was forming everywhere from the dripping and splashing. Then I go to my 1" X 42" belt, and shape and round things up. That is like 125 grit. I had a frozen smile on my face the whole time!
