Just got a mint SAR-4 with orange g-10 off the secondary market. I was under the impression that these had a full height convex grind, but it appears to be a standard V grind. Is it just my eyes, or was the LE the only version with a convex grind? Other than that, this knife is fantastic!

Thanks all.

Only the LE has the zero edge convex job:grumpy::grumpy:

I though Jerry said the LE was the only one with a BLENDED Convex edge, and grind.

I'm pretty sure they all have a convex edge and grind, but only the LE was blended.

The new Double Cut version, at least from pictures, appears to have a standard v-edge.

The Zero edge is the blended edge, the main grind of the knife goes all the way to the edge.

So in the case of a NON-LE version, the main grind of the blade is convex, but the edge is finished off as a standard V?

Nope they all had both convex grinds and convex edges, but only the LE was the ZERO edge, which means, the main grind blends smoothly into the convex edge.

THe only one I am not sure on is the new micarta version. From the pics it looks like a v edge.

Not sure how well it shows up in pics though...

yes,

THe Le is the only one thats totally a pure convex with convex zero edge.

All the others are a convex ground knife, but they have the typical V-edge.

Atleast, that's how I understood it, and thats how mine appear.

Ok, now I'm more confused. My orange g-10 version LOOKS like it has a v-edge, but you are saying that it has a convex edge (just not the zero point blended edge)? Maybe I can't tell visually, but is there a difference between the actual blade edge mine has and a standard v-edge? It doesn't exactly look convex.

Thanks for bearing with me :)

It is confusing!:D

The standard Busse edge is a V, I believe it is put on with a belt sander.
They vary greatly when it comes to degree of angle and sharpness even on the same model.
If you order more than one, you will usually get different V edges.
Most Busse fans want to put the edge they want on the knife anyway....

To confuse further....A belt sander never does a true V edge, it is always slightly convexed by the give of the belt.

Some companies use equpment that produces a V at a perfect angle that is repeated.
Busse are more like custom knives and a lot more is done by hand.

The edge the regular SAR4 is a V added to a full height convex edge.
Someone please correct me if this is wrong?

Now im confused...should i sharpen the SAR4 (special eds) as a convex with a mousepad/leather strop or as a v edge with the spyderco sharpmaker?

If it's not convex already, make it convex.
