I just got rid of all the characteristics I didn't like: far too handle heavy and no usable choil. Now I can really enjoy this knife. It's still heavy for the blade length, but the most comfortable of its size in my collection.

Credits to Lil'Foo who did this before me

When I got the knife in factory set up I wasn't very happy. It was lots and lots of handle, and then some more handle. On top of that the hand was very far away from the cutting edge due to the unproductive "elf choil". As a result it seemed good at nothing: too small for chopping, not enough blade control for delicate tasks. Then I saw this thread by Lil'Foo http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/787094-Sweet-INFI-Mods!!! which inspired me to do the same: shorten the butt (approx. one inch) and grind away the talon hole to create a usable choil. C'est ca!

It's a hassle for me to send knives to the BCS because I live abroad, so I had the mods done by a German knifemaker (Juergen Schanz). Now it's one of my favorites and even looks better.

Any more questions... bring it on! :)

Thank you very much Gentlemen! However, I think it's in the interest of the OP to hear different opinions on the SAR-4. Any happy users with the standard model out there? Jerry must have thought something when designing the knife as it is. Maybe I just didn't get it

Funny, I was just thinking about sending my SAR-4 back for the Lil'Foo treatment myself - any idea how much such a mod would cost?
