Now that I've got this in the right forum...

I was under the impression that new knives came with dog tags, which was apparently wrong.

Is there any way of getting my hands on a dog tag for my new SAR 8 SE?

They only made model-specific dog tags for a few models - AFAIK there is no tag with a SAR8 stamped on it.

That said, the company store sells various other dog tags, so you could just buy one of those.

The only tags direct from Busse that I remember were old Steel Heart and Busse Combat ones. The newer ones from the company store are sold separtely, but knives purchased direct from Busse don't come with one.

Ah, I saw a post in the for sale forum about someone including the dog tag that came with their SAR 8 SE. Must have been purchased from another hog who threw in a tag from the store.

Nope - you've just learned about "skunk junk"

Basically, Idahoskunk, who runs the company store, will occasionally randomly throw extra crap into the box with knives he ships out. That extra crap might be a bit of string or a marble or something similarly useless, or it might be a dog tag or a lanyard. It's just one of the little quirks of buying Busse blades.

Skunk junk is also limited to the company store. Production knives purchased directly from Busse don't have skunk junk.

I was lucky enough to be gifted a tag by skunk when I got my SAR8 through the post. Sadly my mate forgot to forward it on with the blade so i'll have to chase him up on that when I see him in NY next month.

Apparently I learned about it and didn't even know it. He slipped a paracord lanyard in that I missed when I took everything out of the box. I came home from going out Friday night and found one of my wife's cats playing with a lanyard in the hallway that I'd never seen.

Either it fell out of the box while I was opening everything, or the cat pulled it out of the garbage.

...or my wife had another knife guy over while I was out with my friends.
