Looking for a light sheath for my newly purchased SAR8. I really wanted to wait for a CG version but screw it. So I coughed :barf: up another 5 bills.

Is kydex typically heavier than nylon?

And if nylon is lighter, would a spec ops large fit this blade or would the nylon sheath on the scrapyard site (10in one) be a good choice?

Opinions and experience welcome..

I can't be sure, but the Spec-Ops sheath for my SJTAC LE feels about the same in weight to my Mashed Cat SAR-8 sheath. Being as the SAR-8 is about 2 inches longer, I'm gonna have to go with kydex being lighter, but this is my best guess without being able to weigh them.. :)

I have a Mashed Cat sheath that I ordered with my SAR 8, it fits like a glove.
Of note there seem to be at least two tek-lok "lock" options. My Mashed Cat locking piece is removable. On a BuyBrown sheath I got for my TankBuster the lock is a smaller hinged piece that seems to be permanently attached.

Kydex is definately lighter than Nylon...most nylon sheaths have a kydex insert....it does'nt take much more kydex to give you the full sheath...the only issue on kydex being lighter is how or what accessories you add to it for attachment....ie...low rider back-plates and rings etc....

My favourite carry plate is Rainwalkers fixed back plate and nylon loop or fixed loop depending on the weight of the knife...I like nylon for the heavier blades...these are lighter than my Nylon webbing sheath equivalents...

I have a question for you guys about this...

I have a Mashed Cat sheath for my Sar 8. Does anyone know the best way to attach it to the side of a backpack?
