SAR 8 vs. NMFBM

I was finally able to get out during some nice weather and put the SAR 8 to work.
I put it up against my NMFBM to test its chopping ability.
First I found a standing dead tree and used the SAR 8 on it. I didn't count the number of swings but when I was done I had a little hand fatigue. The handle seemed a little narrow for hard chopping.
This knife may have to go to the Spa for some liners to thicken the handle for me

I then took the NMFBM to the same tree. The NMFBM got me through in about half the time and no discomfort to the hand. What a chopper :D

I then found a grape vine and did one swing to see how far each blade would cut. It took a second swing on the SAR 8 for it to stick. Once again the NMFBM wins but the SAR 8 didn't do to bad.

Unfortunately I wasn't out in the woods for a long time but it was long enough to see how the SAR 8 works as a chopper. Obviously the NMFBM is a great chopper and I use it almost daily at work to clear brush and tree limbs. The SAR 8 will, however, do what you need it to do for the larger tasks. The satin finish cleaned right up with a damp cloth and you really can't tell that it was used.

I will be battoning with it this weekend at the NE Ohio Busse Boys Chop-In and Hot Dog Roast and let some others play with it and see what they think.

The SAR 8 does slice bread very well.
Sourdough bread and venison chili

Great pictures! Makes me want to break out the choppas.:D:thumbup:

Looks like you had a beautiful day to play with those bad bays.

Great pix, thanks for sharing.

yea, I think with the additional weight, the NMFBM is better chopper hands down.

Bring the chili tomorrow! :D

Looking forward to try the SAR8. Course, it's not a fair contest to compare it to a monster like the NMFBM. But we can see how it compares to a HHFSH or NMSFNO or a Banned FSH.

Comparing those to would be like comparing a Porsche 911 to a VW beetle. LOL :D

Great pics - I'd love to see the same type of comparison, but against an nmsfno, since they are similarly sized. If they ever come out with a cg sar8 I'll do it myself, but I can't justify satin prices for yet another 8" knife.

Thanks for posting your results - that sar 8 sure held it's own out there

Great pic's and review!!! I agree w/what has been said regarding a similar knife for comparing against. That's like putting an Offensive Tackle against a Safety.

I wasn't trying to make it a fair competetion. Obviously the NMFBM or any other "dedicated" chopper will out perform the SAR 8 in chopping tasks.

I do believe that the SAR 8 is a great all around knife and will do multiple tasks well.
I just wanted to share some Busse porn with my fellow addicts and needed some flimsy excuse :D

I know one thing, like Scott said that pumkin is beautiful. Man just don't have it in a brown or russet sheath and drop it, you will be looking for it for a while in that fall foliage. That Green on Tan NMFBM looks good as well out there.

Actually, I'm getting some pumpkin pants from Scott. It should be a little harder to loose :p

Nice pics and comparison.

That Sar-8 is a really nice knife. I figured with the extra weight the NMFBM would outchop it pretty easy.
