Spencer (SAR Knives) is relatively new to knife making, but he sure has made a splash in his niche, custom tactical fixed blades, a hard field to compete and succeed in, but, he seems to be bringing something new to it, a fresh design, very nicely implimented, and having received a Hornet from him recently, IMO, he is making knives like a veteran, which is to say, exceptional materials and F&F. Yeah, I collect mainly forged bowies, and folders, but there's just something about these SAR knives that really draws me in. :)

I had Spencer, a great guy to deal with BTW, make me an (as of yet :) ), one of a kind Hornet XL, I chose a handle of red carbon fiber slabs, with a heat colored Ti liner, Spencer went a bit further, as he has a very good eye for detail, and nicely fileworked the Ti liners, and, he stitched a red stripe into the lanyard to match the red CF, very nice touches, the lanyard terminates in a small, very menacing (in a good way :) ) antiqued pewter-like skull.

The red color and intense flash of the CF doesn't come out that well in Spencer's pics, but when the light hits it, well, it's VERY cool, it has that wild optical illusion quality that polished CF can have, but with the neat addition of vivid, fiery red. Very comfy in the hand, and just a very striking, heavy duty blade, with a great edge to boot. Excellent kydex too, nicely fit and finished, it is set up for neck wear as per my request, and it has been hanging from my neck since receiving it. :) I see more Hornets in my near future with maybe damascus and ivory??? :D

Here are Spencer's pics, I hope to take a few more when I get a chance.

I really like his knives too they are unique. I do not own one but would love to be able to get my hands on one. Does he have a base model hornet?

Normally I'm not that fond of tactical knives, they all look a bit the same to me IMVHO. This one though has what I might call the  -look. I might even consider buying something like that just for fun.

not a big fan of tactical knives either...whenever i hear the word tactical attached to a certain knife design it immediately brings a picture of some outlandish design from a sci-fi movie. i find most of them overly-done for whatever "tactical" design purpose they were intended.

but this one....hmmmmm...yeah, ok...i see the tactical usage for this. design is definitely original and i've seen most of his knives stick to the same elements and basic shape originally of his own.

I happen to very much LOVE his work!! That is a sweeeeet knife!! I hopew to some day get some of his work.

This kind of goes along with what Megalobyte said.I have worked with Spencer on one of his customs ( I did the sheath) and he was super to deal with. While I don't sheath too many tacticals this one was nice to work with. The knife was well done and the finish was top notch. This one will probably please the custom crowd.Dave:)

I think the Hornets are amongst the coolest looking knives out there. I have never used one, so I can't comment on their functionality, but I would be willing to bet they work just fine.

Wiped the cob webs off the old light tent, which hasn't seen much action in a while, I had a good reason to though, to get some more shots of this new, red CF Hornet that has become a favorite of mine.

In any case, here's what I took tonight, let me know what you think.

How does it feel in hand? especially since the screws aren't recessed into the handle material. it looks kinda uncomfortable with the screws sticking out. so does it make a difference?

Very nice Sheath Dave. I had the chance to take a look at it a few weeks ago. Nice work Sir! As to Spence, He is a friend of ours. Great Guy. To make a long story short, Kit Carson years ago spent time in my shop honing his grinding skills. Spence was coming to Killeen Tx. To train at Ft Hood. ( He is Air Borne). Kit Ask me to teach Spence to grind. and I must say, that he picked it up faster than any one who ever walked into my shop. My hat is off to the boy, for paying attention, and coming out with his own design, which has made quite a hit. His fit and finish is getting better and better all the time. As far as tactical, it is the world that he lives in. As did Kit.And just look where it took him! His designs are different, but isn't that the point? Thanks guy's M. I really like them, the only thing i would change is the pointy thing on the butt of the knife a more rounded end for iwb carry
I might get one soon

The pointy thing is a skull crusher, I think it fits in well with the overall design, but I'm sure it could be removed if you so desired, or maybe even kept there, but rounded off a bit more for comfort in IWB carry.

As for the screws, I don't even feel them when gripping the knife, if anything, they offer dome small degree of slip resistance. The knife for what it is, is pretty comfortable in even my large hands.

To answer the question of price, probably best to ask Spencer directly, since it might change depending on materials, but, what I will say is, it is extremely reasonable for what you are getting. I can't recall the last time I felt like my money was so well spent, well, maybe when the double action MT LCC's were going for under $200, :) but that aside, in customs, it might be the best value I have seen.

Love mine. Important part of my traveling pair.

Looks good on our spokes model too, doesn't it? :D

Yes it is a skull crusher, or temple spike, but more to the point in the design, it is the HORNET'S Stinger. What would a Hornet be without its stinger? Mike

Ari,
Very nice little tactical.
Dave,
Great looking combo,is that sheath what I think it is? (Cobra)
Mike,
Thanks for the background.

Doug :)

Wow, his knives are very unique and cool-looking. But to actually carry, I find them a little too outlandish for my tastes. Maybe I am just boring.
