got my first deer of the season last thursday and used the orange/black g10 sar3 to skin and quarter the buck. had a wyoming knife as a backup but it stayed sheathed. anyway, i must say i was quite impressed how the knife performed, especially when lifting out the backstraps and removing the rear quarters. it cut real nice and the large angle grind seemed to help keep it from overpenetrating. sometmes it bogged down a bit on bunched deer hair when removing the skin from the neck and leg ends, but that’s probably expected from any knife. the edge was just right and i hope i can duplicate when it needs sharpening.

great knife. thanks!

Congratulations on your first Deer. It is one experience you will never forget.
The SAR 3 is a great blade and I am glad you got to use it as it was intended, cheers to you

yeah, this post is about a year old, but i've quartered six deer so far since that first post and this knife just f'n rocks. it's perfect! only touched up the edge just once and my only concern is cleaning it and hoping its not rusting underneath the handles.

speaking about that, any concerns or issues about moisture getting under the handles? i know a bunch of the busse's use similar handle assembly techniques. let me know.

thanks - mike

Cool. My Muk is dying to get inside a deer carcass.......just ain't had any luck in the woods yet. I didn't take a shot a young/small 8 pointer facing me at 18 yards with my crossbow about a month ago.....kinda regretting that now.

Take any pics of the SAR 3 in action?

Matt, Well rusting under the scales is going to happen and there is really nothing you can do about it. I just try to clean and dry my food prep knives and then reapply a coat of oil (food grade Mineral Oil) along the tang and then a liberal coat now and again. If I'm talking knives that I'm not using for food prep then I use a good thin oil like Tri-Flow and again a few coats.

Thanks for the review Mike, always like reading reviews on skinning/ Busse/Kin knives as that is my primary interest and use for my knives.
