I am still waiting for my SARganza score and wondered if someone could weigh in on a SAR5's fit into a regular Spec OPs sheath. Yes it should fit as far as length (on paper), but I would rather be certain!

I'm hoping the SAR5 arrives soon enough as I will be camping in a few weeks. :)

Thanks!

Since a BATAC fits no problem, I'd think a SAR5 would have room to spare. You might want to heat and mold the kydex liner a bit, in fact.

Be really careful when cusotm molding Spec Ops liners. All of mine have been a thermo-plastic other than kydex, and have been far less forgiving than kydex. I would recommend hot water or a hair drier rather than a heating gun, and make minor adjustments at a time. If it starts to curl on its own it's getting too hot. Slow and patient is the best way to happiness with these.

Another consideration is the number of knives that you have that may fit into a single Spec Ops sheath. You may have several knives that will fit into the generic sleeve, but you could limit yourself if you custom fit the sleeve to a particular knife. I have two Spec Ops small sheaths that I can use with about 7 knives. Just keep good tension on the bottom most screw to keep the edge away from the rivet and you should be fine. A little movement in the sheath is a small price to pay for versatility.

Another option would be to commission one of the kydex guys to make a liner for you. Should be cheaper than a kydex sheath, and a perfect fit for your knife. I've done that with several of my Spec Ops, after ruining the original liners and discovering the advice I wrote above.

good luck!

There is a problem with retention. The NW SAR-5 has a "recessed" Talon Hole and no guard for the sheath's handle strap to grab. This allows the blade to be pulled from the sheath with the strap still fastened. Molding the kydex insert to grip the handle and first tube fastener would be a solution, as would making or buying a kydex sheath that grips the same or a leather sheath that uses a "pin lock" securing strategy. Did you try this to find out? Not doubting you, just curious as the "choil" of the SAR5 looks as though it would secure the blade just fine. Also, dropping the blade to the first fastener would probably extend the blade beyond 5.5"... Thanks for your input though, I am having second thoughts!

A lot of the reason why I am thinking Spec Ops is that I am ordering a Combat Master for my ETS SJTac (to match my !!first!! Busse, an Urban Grey/Snakeskin CG SJTac); to save on shipping, and that way I'd have something on hand to wear when camping. Not that I couldn't wear a CG FBM, CG ASH1, SJTac, or Hell Razor instead if I don't get a sheath for the SAR5 before then... :p Plus, with Blade coming up I am not 100% I'll have the SAR5 before I go. I will be taking my brother camping with a few of his friends as his bachelor party! :)

Just slipped my SAR5 into Spec-Ops Combat Master 6" sheath and it fits fine.

If you fit the velcro fastener TIGHT around the handle the knife will slip out 1/2" but will catch on the strap and shouldn't fall out. If you pulled really hard on the handle at that point you might cut the fastener but you would have to go to extreme effort to do so.
