I just went and grabbed both and I have to say very subtle difference between the two.
The SAR 8 balances almost to the middle of the choil and the M9 balances at the edge of the g-10.
So I guess technically speaking the SAR 8 is a little more blade heavy, but to me the SAR 8 feels very well balanced.
When I swing them and mess around the SAR 8 feels like it would do a better job at chopping and yet somehow has a little more finesse because the blade is not as broad.
Hope that helps a little. If there is something specific you want to know I can check that.
I don't have a Sar8, but I can say that the M9 is uncanny in it's balance. It seems to defy physics in it's balance.
If I had to make a comparison, I'd say it feels kinda like a hellrazor in the hand... fast and light. I know that may not make sense... but I've been drinkin all day and that is the best I can do...
Handle-wise, I think the SAR8 has the M9 beat. I wouldn't go near chopping with an M9 without a lanyard. It just doesn't feel 100% right. I think it's that high butt-end. The SAR8, with that flaring of the butt and rounded overall design would make a treat to chop with.
I still haven't received my SAR8 to make a comparison. It did ship Sept 11th. Probably won't see it until next Sunday due to travel. The M9LE sure is a fine blade and should be hard to beat. I hope the Battle Rattle turns out nearly as good; better if possible.
For me the M9 feels like a fighting knife... sports car handling, light and fast... I don't have the SAR8 yet, but I have the 4... and feel that the SAR line fits more into the survival & woodsman assignment/operation. YMMV
