Sarsquach - user opinions sought

A Sarsquatch makes a great camp knife and general purpose survival blade. Not really sure what an urban jungle blade is.

I personally LOVE the SARSquatch and DO consider it a very well balanced blade.

I still have a bit of mixed feeling about the swedge. For the most part, I would rather not have it. But, blade shape, thickness, balance, ergos, handle, fit, feel, etc. ALL very good for a all-rounder camp, trail, woods carry knife and similar. Actually, for it's size, I consider the SarSquatch one of the best. Just a bit better than the Skinny Ash or HR IMO and I like it even more than my SFNOLE... although, I wish my SARSquatch were satin.
Another worthy knife albiet a bit smaller is my modified SJTAC. I LOVE the blade shape on my SJTAC, but I had to remove the thumb ramp and make some other handle mods to fit and feel better for my hands.

I don't think I can help you in reference to "urban" jungle carry (???????). I don't see it as a city carry knife at all. Sorry. But, then I don't see ANY knife that size as "Urban" carry.

For my "Urban" carry, I pretty much always carry a folder. If I had to carry a fixed blade for urban, I wouldn't have any interest in carrying anything over about 4.5" blade, but most likely even smaller.

To each their own.

The SARsquatch is currently my one and only Busse in the stable, but that aside, it is a great blade that will take anything you can throw at it. I just used mine yesterday along with a Bark River machete to clear trees vines and saplings from my back fence and had a blast doing it.

If you get one you will not regret it. Carries well and the 3/16 blade has enough heft to make it a pretty effective chopper with the convexed edge.

Only thing I disliked was the swedge when batoning. Too big for urban carry IMO.
Great camp knife!

I love my SARsquatch.
It has a great balance, great weight. I use when i'm on a tour.
But if i mean well the urban jungle, i think this is not what you looking for 100%. Too big as an urban wear. I recommend more BATAC, or something similar with it.

I like the Sarsquatch so much, I got two of them. I like its light weight and broad blade. It works well as a mini-machete and all purpose field knife. But for urban use, maybe the bottom "Bowie" version would be better. Not available in stores.

I LOVE my SARSquatch. I was against the swedge on it and still would prefer it without it but it is really one of the best batoning blades I have despite that because it is relatively thin. The swedge does chew up batons a *little but it still splits VERY efficiently. It is one of the best Busse camp knives IMO. The SARSquatch is balance forward for chopping and I think Jerry wanted to take some weight off the end for a more neutral balance than it would otherwise have been. It is also nice for splitting smaller stuff with the point to look on the bright side ;)

When I think of urban carry I tend to think of rescue situations rather than self defense. For prying a door open or whatever I would like something thicker like a CGASH1. That also has a subtle bird's beak pommel which would help in breaking glass if needed. It also provides a firm grip for such chores.

I really like the Sarsquatch, it's one of my favorite Busses, it can do it all.

Appropriate camp knife, balanced and fast, very good the handle, beautiful and aggressive the competition finish -

Those clip point mods look great!

HD, did the balance change much when you did that mod? The SARSquatch does not have much 'chop' in it to begin with, I was concerned that taking metal off would make it worse.

Greg, did you do that yourself? Can you comment on before/after w.r.t handling/balance/chopping?

Did you guys drop the point at all, or just draw a line back from the point to the spine to eliminate the swedge?

Mine has the original point. Mine isn't nearly as pretty as some, but it works fine. I did not notice much difference in handling or chopping with the clip point. While the Sarsquatch can chop, it does not have the chopping power of a Ratweiler or NMSFNO. It is a lighter blade than those.

Ban Tang did the mod. on my Squatch. I haven't gotten to use it yet so I can't relay any post mod. user experience. My pesky CGFBM will not allow me to use any other Busses, whenever I go out, there it is, standing by the front door wagging its tail.;)

His handle here is 'Ban' He hasn't posted much lately, and I don't know if he is currently taking on new mod work. You should be able to contact him through the forum.

Yeah, I was recently in the makers forum, his BT4 thread was just bumped by him (Ban), he's currently feeling the crunch, and not taking any work.

Resinguy gave you good advice Venice Will, do a forum search with his username... Ban... and his contact info will pop-up. Horn Dog does good work, I wonder if he'd.... hmmmm.... nevermind.:p

I liked it. Wasn't the best chopper in the world. Reason I let it go was the rounded swell in the middle of the handle. Felt like a golf ball, IMHO. YMMV.

If you look closely at Ban's SARbowie, the pommel and ricasso are polished. He removed the scales to do that. All my regrinds are just on the blade. I leave the rest rough.

The competition edge on the Comp Grade Squatchie is the best edge you can get!

Although I don't think they are ideal for urban carry... they are an AWESOME camp knife!
