What do you guys think? Any preference between the 2? I've had an itch for this blade for awhile...sharpening up that swedge...oh yeah!

I'm leaning towards the competition finish...would just see duty hiking and some camping and with all the other blades in rotation- who knows how much of that really?!

Any of you Hogs able to share a little wisdom with this Rat/Dog? :D:thumbup:

Thanks!

if the cf is convex i would go with that, I have a cf and Cg BWM and the finish already started coming off on the CG BWM just putting in in my kydex sheath a couple of times. I think the cf looks kind of cool too and from what i hear is more of a beater

Sarsquatch CG striped and convexed will looks like similar to the Sarsquatch Comp Finish, but will tend less to rust.

I saw one stripped, convexed and with a sharpned wedge done by NorCal...that was about the start of my sarsquatch fixation! Looked soooo good!

Not many responses, wonder if that means it's kind of a wash between them?

The Competition "finish" (CF model) is actually an unfinished blade, rust-prone de-carb layer not removed, that has a factory ground convex edge for what is generally considered to be superior cutting ability and hard use edge retention. The Combat Grade model is a standard coated blade with a now standard "V" grind edge, easier to apply, but a bit less durable.

Either would serve you well.

I think if you convexed the edge and did a full blend to the main grind, they would chop the same.

As for the Comp finish, you just have to be willing either take care of it, or hit it lightly with a scotch bright or sanding so the comp finish does not rust. It is just the outer layer of Decarb that actually rusts, but it is danged aggressive if you don't fix that.

Nor cal, and Ban both have posted some real beauties for modifications.

Here is one of Ban's most recent. Hopefully he won't mind my reposting this here for your viewing pleasure.

Here is a Black Linen Sarsquatch for your viewing pleasure  Enjoy! as I am sure BaconSlinger will probably enjoy her more ;)

Yep, you can treat the decarb like parkerizing if you want. While the decarb does rust easily it also soaks up oil really well. Now that I've started to learn how to do proper coatings (KG Gunkote, Molyresin) I think I know why they leave it on underneath the coated blades. Provides a great surface for the coating to adhere to, probably the next best thing to parkerizing which is almost impossible with clean infi.

Well, pulled the trigger on a SQ CF! Will have it this week and see how it stacks up against my fav blade- Camp Tramp!

Keep the blade dry and oiled. Mine rusted and I had to sand it down to get that decarb layer off. It hasn't rusted since.

Thanks Vic! - you gotta be a bit more rust prone there I figure. But, I clean and oil regularly...

I understand the big love for this knife- great all around blade! Out chops my Tramp by a step or two!

The Sarsquatch is a great Busse. It's light and not too big so it carries well. And it can do light chopping with ease. Congrats on getting one.
