SARsquatch grinds

My Ganza squatches showed up, and I was comparing them to the one I got at Blade.

I know there's a substantial difference between operators grinds.

The Blade knife has a convex edge which extends past the plunge line, with no INFI bumps. The 2 I got over the weekend have dimples down to within a 1/4 inch of the edge.

The Blade knife looks like a Ban job, the others more resemble the zero edge I have on an SH-E and AB.

Figured they must weigh different so I did:

The Blade one weighs 1lbs 1oz (482gr)
SarS 1 weighs 1lbs 1.5oz (496gr)
SARS 2 weighs 1lbs 1.1oz (486gr)

The Blk CG SARS weighs 1lbs 1.3oz (491gr)

The difference in balance between the heaviest and lightest is interesting

Just wondered if anyone else had noticed.

I'm too tired to do pics

Got any comparison pics. If there are dimples starting about 1/4" up from the edge then you ought to end up with a really thick edge geometry with a whole bunch of dimples all the way up to the spine.

Mine is the same way with the one from Blade having a much higher convex finish.

Here's what I'm seeing, Blade vs Ganza:
  • Polished with no dimples = Blade 1/2" from edge vs Ganza 1/4" from edge
  • Unpolished transition with no dimples = Blade middle 1/3 of blade vs Ganza lower 1/3 of blade
  • Raw with normal Infi dimples = Blade top 1/3 of blade vs Ganza top 2/3 of blade

The stamp "2009 Special Edition" and the Busse Logo is also much darker on the Ganza blades and in a larger font.

*** edit - Bah! 2008 Special Edition***

Darn how did I miss out on the 2009 special editions! That is some pretty interesting info that you posted. I did not get a chance to see the recent Sarsquatch from the ganza. I just heard that some of them also did not have the 2008 Special Edition etching on them. But it sounds like there is quite a bit of difference between the Blade and Ganza CF Sarsquatch.

Consistency seems to be...........? I havent been at the Busse collecting too long, a couple of years or so,but Im already noticing a not so positive trend, IMO.

I only got one from Blade only...so can't compare.

But last years 2007 SE's were a bit differant in the ganza. The slabs were thicker and darker. The SE AD and Meaner's from Ganza last year also had a lower plunge line making for a thicker spine/blade.

I'll try and get some up tonight.

I was too beat last night to even try :confused::rolleyes::yawn: :p

I like the Blade blade for the woods, the heavy one might be better for urban environments, I like a fat edge.

no ..

I intercepted some of the ganza packages . I replaced em with knock-offs and kept the originals.:p

but feel free to try and prove it to get em back:p:thumbup::D

;)

These are great blades . One from the ganza , one I finished stripping and sanding . Don't have a digital scale any more :D But I'm sure my tan is a lot lighter now .

Oh wow... there is a difference.

I like the one from blade 08 better. It looks like they rushed these bad boys out the door. The result is less time put into grinding such a crazy edge.

I could push cut a fatty phone book with next to no effort with the Sarsquatch from blade. I wonder if these new batches can do the same ????

I wonder if the CE JH grinds vary that much as well. Since the ganza knives that shipped before the holiday were leftovers from Blade they should have the nicer thinner convex edge.

HMMMMM, I'll look tonight ;)

The rest of my JH's should have showed up today :foot:

I have to agree with Uncle Jarvis. The whole point of of the CE knives is a wicked edge. I'm glad my CEJH was from the Blade production run.

Jimmy, are you saying that the Blade Sqwatches are PROTOTYPES? Speaking of Sqwatches, isn't that word kind of erotic? I am waiting for Jerry to make a 10 inch version of the sarsqwatch and call it the LONGSQWATCH

Oh yeah, they're Proto's, worth twice as much as a Ganza blade ;)

I'll reserve comment on the rest of your post, maybe Tony can chime in :p

:D

I think you all are reading too much into this.
Its probably that some just got a little more attention and a better grind than others.

I scored 2 CE Squatches in the ganza...
one has a satin finish all the way up to a 1/4" from the spine
And the other has INFI dimple all the way down to a 1/2: from the cutting edge.

Both of the convexed cutting edges on mine are pretty well matched.
