Anyone know why this knife is such a rust bucket? I like the knife and made it my user basically because it rusts every couple days no matter how much I scrub it. Is this just a property of infi?

You've got the one with a competition finish I guess...
that is the decarb layer which gets easily rusted.
If you do a search, you'll find out more.
User, you say?! Those are ment to be used. and a bit of rust is good for your body, too...;) :D

you can polish it, and get rid of the decarb - no rust. (would be some work, for sure)

Thanks for the info. Have any other Busse's been plagued with this or was this a one and only deal? Mine is indeed the competition grade.

Nope. Just the Comp Edition's. Jackhammer, Hell Razor, Squatch and SJTAC? I think all of those. Not 100% sure on teh SJTAC.

I've used Marine tough cloth on quite a few of my knives to prevent rust. I would assume this may work on INFI as well?

Anyone have any experience with that?
A $5 sentry solutions marine tough cloth may be worth a try.

I would think a good going-over with one of them Scotch-brite wheels would do the trick.

The first batch of Comp-edition blades had a lot less decarb, relatively. seems the edges were very very thinly made. So the decarb doesn't start until halfway to the spine. But it gets ugly.

There is no harm. It'll never get past the decarb layer. So you can either sand it off somehow or have a functional ugly blade.

My SJTAC Comp suffers the same affliction:cool::cool:
It's still my favorite edition of the SJTAC.....

My CE rusted so badly that even the Scotchbrite wheels could not remove the discoloration. So I just sanded it. No problems since.

This was it before the rust (top). The bottom one is my modified Squatch Bowie.

WHOAH! That squatch bowie is sweet. I almost wish I'd picked up one of the squatches from BLADE West, now... I'd have to send it to the third world grind shop to get modded :D

my hell razors and jack hammers aren't bad, don't even think there are any on there...

I have never removed the scales from a Busse. Who knows what lurks there?

No, Bushmaster, I don't do polishing services, just sharpening.

That decarb/rust problem is unique to the comp finishes. I would for sure spend some time with some light grit sandpaper and fix that problem. The infi underneath won't have any rust issues once that decarb is removed.
