Anyone catch the show on OLN called "SAS: Are You Tough Enough?". Damn, what a show! 20 regular people who have to train and survive being put through the same course as the SAS.

Last night it was Escape and Evade manuevers on the British countryside while being pursued by the real SAS, dogs and Search & Rescue teams. The teams had a 3 hour head start. After the teams were captured one by one, they had to go through 15 hours of interrogation and mind games.

By the end of the show, 5 or 6 people were kicked off for not being tough enough, for breaking SOP, or otherwise cracking under the pressure.

Shucks, missed that one. Have to keep me eye out for the next airing.

For a good read on the subject of SAS "Selection", pick up Andy McNab's Bravo Two Zero. The section on veteran SAS members doing the trials "for fun, while smoking cigarettes" will crack you up.

For a good read on US Special Forces Operational Detachement-Delta (i.e. "Delta Force") selection, pick up Eric Haney's Inside Delta Force. The section on the "man who walked his feet off" will crack you up.

Both of these guys were the real deal operators. Both books are good reads.

I got "Bravo Two Zero" the movie on DVD. Pretty good film. Sean Bean plays McNab and it's filmed almost like a documentary.

There is a recent story "A Millenium Memory" by Irish Tony Cascarino - a former British commando - who fought on Croatian side in the war in Croatia, ten years ago.
You may get it via internet at his site

Reminds me of the 'Bravo Two Zero' story. Very realistic, true, passionate.

The BBC did a second series which was located in the jungles of Belize. I think they'd lost about half by the end of the first episode. I believe a third series is in the works which I'm sure is going to be set in the desert but I'm not sure.
Bent T. If you want to take part I believe the application forms were on the BBC website for both series. www.bbc.co.uk
They choose people like firefighters, triathletes, LEO's, etc. The only stipulation is that you cannot of been a member of the military.
hope this helps
