Sasafras wood ?

Hi, I just cut down a Sasafras that had died last year. It's large enough to cut scales from so I'm thinking about trying it as a handle material. Can't beat the price, LOL. Anyway I know it's considered good for Framing and Furniture but can't find any info as to if it will make a good handle. Anyone try it? Your thoughts as to if it needs to be stabilized?
