This is a knife ABS mastersmith Joe Kessler taught me how to forge years ago. He told me the legend was Jim Bowie was in Saskatchewan Canada and got in a bar fight. He pulled his gun and it went click and the guy shot him in the shoulder. Upon healing, he went to a blacksmith and said to make him a knife as he would never again be without a weapon. Joe said it may be true and may not? Great knife to forge for folks starting out. Not very hard to do. I started with a 1/4 inch thick by 1 inch wide by 8 inch bar of 5160. First thing to forge is the finger choil on the horn then forge blade and taper tang. Just stay off the choil when forging tang and blade and just use a wire wheel to clean up. African Blackwood scales and 9 1/2 inches overall. A real fun one to build and suprisingly comfortable and balanced.
