Acquired this today.

Sater Banko was apparently in business from the early 1900's until just after WWII.

The head weighs exactly 1 1/4 pounds. It is 5" long, the cutting edge is 3" and the poll is 2". When I removed the handle it measured 14.5" total.

I was hoping the handle was salvageable, but when I cut the tape off it was cracked about halfway through nearly the full length of the handle.

Whoo hoo! Swedish steel again. Never paid the Swedes much mind over the years only to discover that Springfield Armory USA bought some in the late 1880s order to make the very first smokeless powder rifle barrels and that top drawer German and French knife makers (Henkels and Sabatier amongst them) today use Swedish steel to make their products. It is a small world.

Awesome little find. Should make an excellent hatchet once it's all refurbed. With the profile it should cut and split really well. Looking forward to the progress and finished product.

Every time I get ready to place a handle order, I pick up something else that needs a handle. I keep putting it off. I'll get my handle order in soon.

This one will end up being my daughter's......great size for her.
