Got one of these a few days back from a kind soul on the bussekin exchange here-this is the best knife I have ever held and used-absolutely perfect (and I've had Rat Mastiffs,Jacks, Battle Guards, Battle Mistresses, you name it). This, my vintage Uncle Henry pocketknife, bruks axe, and a fillet knife for trout-all I need. I understand that these businesses have an apparently successful model, but by word-of-mouth and examination they could sell all the SBR's they could make. This is not only the last knife I would ever sell but also one of the very last possessions I would move.

Yes, pics are in order. IMHO, the SBRs and the 1st Gen HRs are the best knives to ever come out of the Swamp. A lot of folks know how good the HRs are, but not too many speak about the SBRs, possibility because they were not made in huge numbers and there was (is) a cheaper counterpart--the standard Battle Rat.

I'll work on some pics. Also, I just happen to have a 1st-gen HR, and that is a sweet blade, just kind of fond on my Banned Busse LM Street right now. I have no issues with the standard BR, but my SBR seems to me lighter than those blades not to mention the Battle Guard, and the grind and edge just blow me away-purely subjective, I guess, but it seems to have all the heft but in a light and nimble package, kind of like a toned fitness model versus a pure bodybuilding female...man, I have issues, going straight there for comparison, don't I!

Again, I think that the SBR and my Old Henry covers 99% of my cutting needs.

Speaking of the HR, the LMHR is also a sweet blade-I have had three or four, love them, but find them expendable when I want something else-just totally different feel and ergonomics, as far as I'm concerned, from the HR-1st. Also, though I love res-c on big blades, I don't personally have the need for such shock absorbing on the small blade. Just my 2 cents...

Oh, crap, I almost forgot, got to have my Spyderco Manix clipped somewhere close, just as a fall-back, and my Bruks mini-hatchet slips anywhere and does a whole lot...BUT, the Leader of Pack is and will remain the SBR. Long live the King!

One day I'm gonna take one out and use it...

That nimbleness is one of the things that makes that knife so amazing. Try it in the kitchen cutting up pretty much anything and you'll find it acts like a smaller blade. It can slice veggies very thin and it isn't at all difficult to work with on small jobs. Take it out in the woods and it will chop all day. It really is even better in use than one thinks it will be just from handling it. IMHO, it is the perfect production knife camp blade.

One day I'm gonna take one out and use it...

You really should. I honestly think you will be amazed at how it feels in actual use.

I also once had two, and willingly parted with one so I could "spread the love". :D Realistically, though, I am more than happy with "just" one and like you, mine is a keeper.

The SBR is my #1 user. An amazing knife. Now I just have one that you can see is all scuffy in the next post. :D

And here's my #2 user on top. :D

The CG BR is the one that my kids fight over all the time.

WHAT???!!!??? A SBR thread that I didn't start?

CongRats on getting a SBR cw.son – it is without a doubt the best rat blade ever made. I do hope that they will eventually make another batch in exactly the same way they made the first. There is simply nothing left to improve on.

Enjoy!

:p;) I just hope you did not sell an SHBM that you also regret selling. :foot:

Seriously though, if I had two, you'd be the first one on my list to get the second one if/when I sold it.

The SBR is truly the best! It is true, true, true. The only mod made to mine was to treat the blade with lemon juice. I never got a sheath for it though, although it deserves a fine one.

You know, after having used this blade for everything from clearing some land of brush and shrubs to making stakes for my Cherokee Purple's to delicate cutting and slicing in the kitchen, I have decided that my Satin Battle Rat will be made available.....IF my wife can pry from it my fingers and thus keep me from being buried with it someday (hopefully a long time away.

No, my two SHBM will be here for a while.

Great, go find me a user SBR and sell it to me cheap! :D

cwdotson now has the one that you sold me. :p

Funny how we can track blades around the 'club'. I took a Euro 4 to Blade 07, and sitting around the table Thursday night were 4 of the 5 previous owners.
