Anyone know approximately what the grit is on a "Satin Brite Belts 1" x 42" Grit:Fine". I'm seriously considering getting a Kalamazoo 1X42 belt grinder and I know Jantz sells a 600 grit belt but I was wondering if this fine belt might be in the 1K or higher ranger. Looking for a 1X42 belt that can go in between the 600 grit and a high polish leather or felt belt laoded with stropping compound. Appreciate any advice.

Infi-del,
I have the same belt grinder and it great for sharpening knives. Don't know the grit on the Satin Brite Belts. I use 240 grit to start also have 500x ( 20 micron) and 1200x (9 micron).
Leather belt with .25 diamond liquid spray. It doesn't get much better then this for me. You should be pleased with the Kalamazoo.

Infi-del,
I have great results with the Kalamazoo 1SM using 3M Trizact belts.

Doug Rising at dougrising@yahoo.com has a wide selection of Trizact belts from A160 (P120 grit) to A3 (aproximates 4000 grit Japanese waterstone.)

The A16 (P1200 grit) Trizact is also available at Supergrit, www.supergrit.com/products/products_belts-misc.asp

My most used Trizacts are the A100 (P180 grit) for reprofilling, A30 (P600 grit) or A16 (P1200 grit) for intermediate sharpening and the A6 (P2500 grit) for final edge polishing. I also finish on a leather belt or hand hone loaded with 0.5 micron green chromium oxide compound.

Good luck with your sharpening.
