Satin Busse Handle Rust?

IIRC, the same guy who researched if the light goes off in the refrigerator when the door closes delved into this timeless question also...

he hangs out over at the Cold Steel subforum.

Look in there and see! I would have to say no to this question. Use, abuse......repeat.

Rust is a byproduct of oxidation. If it occurred under the scales, which would be rare, it would be self limiting. I expect that given the thickness of Busse knives and the fit of the scales it would not be a practical issue. However, if rust did form, you would very likely see it first at the area where the tang and the scales meet down the spine or the front of the knife. If you rubbed a paper towel over the steel and scales and the paper towel was saturated with mineral oil, it would come off like a thin orange dye.

I think Garth said they put something in there when they put the handles on.

Not much rust but it usually is like BIG satin under the handles I have seen removed. Stripping with handles off but not cleaning off decarb is a whole other matter rust wise though. ;)

I have had rust under two satin busse knives so far. Under one handle of a coated busse knive was a bit rust on a squared space. (A factory marking?)
